What we measure
Total Testosterone
Total testosterone refers to the overall amount of the hormone in the bloodstream, including both bound and unbound forms.
SHBG
Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is a protein that regulates the amount of testosterone available in the body by binding to testosterone in your blood.
Free Testosterone
Free testosterone is the unbound form of testosterone that’s bioavailable and ready for your body to use. It makes up just 1-3% of your total testosterone but plays a crucial role in muscle growth, energy, and overall vitality for men.
LH
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland that helps regulate the reproductive system by stimulating Leydig cells to produce testosterone.
FSH
FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) is key for men’s reproductive health. It helps regulate sperm production by stimulating the testes.
PSA
Prostate-Specific Antigen is a protein made by the prostate. High levels can indicate prostate issues, including enlargement or cancer risk.
ALT
Alanine Aminotransferase is an enzyme in your liver. Elevated ALT levels may signal liver damage or inflammation.
Vitamin D
Essential for bone health, immune function, and hormone balance. Low levels can lead to fatigue and weakened immunity.
Estradiol
A form of estrogen that men need in small amounts. It helps with bone health and libido but high levels can lead to unwanted fat gain or mood changes.
How does this compare to other testosterone tests?
Type & description
In-person Venipuncture
An in-person test in which a phlebotomist draws blood from your arm. This is usually done at brick & mortar labs like Quest and LabCorp. While accurate, it is less convenient and can be painful to some.
What maximus uses
At-Home Shoulder
This At-Home Test is practically painless and uses microneedles to draw capillary blood from the shoulder. Proven through repeated studies to be as accurate as the gold standard.
At-Home Finger Prick
These tests can be accurate or inaccurate depending on how the dried blood spot was collected and temperature variations during shipping. Not a reliable measure for tracking testosterone.
At-Home Salivary
While convenient, these tests are prone to inaccuracy depending on collection methods and oral hygiene. This is not a recommended method for measuring testosterone.

You have questions, we have answers.
View Help DeskIs this a needle-free blood collection system?
Our at home blood testing kits, dubbed Tasso devices, utilize a small lancet instead of needles. The testing device sticks to the skin with a light adhesive and when the button is pressed, a vacuum forms so that a tiny lancet can prick the surface of the skin. The vacuum draws blood out of the capillaries and into a compatible container attached to the bottom of the testing device.
How many times can each Tasso device be used?
Each testing device can be used once.
How many times can someone sample in a single day using Tasso devices?
The limitations on how many samples can be collected depends on the real estate available on your shoulders. Most of our protocols require only one sample collection, with two collections being the maximum on specific protocols.
Does it hurt to collect blood with the Tasso device?
On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most painful and 1 being the least painful, our testing devices are a 1. Most of our patients do report their experiences as a small, gentle prick that is nearly unnoticeable.
Does someone need to be trained to collect blood with a Tasso device?
No! We include comprehensive instructions and links to instructional videos that allow anyone to be able to use these devices.
What is the regulatory status of the Tasso device?
The Tasso+ collection device is a 510(k)-cleared Class II Lancet and CE Marked (European Conformity) device that collects liquid samples of whole capillary blood. [[https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm?ID=K221131
,In August 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the Tasso+ as a Class II medical device. ]]
What kind of samples does the Tasso device collect?
The Tasso device collects liquid samples of whole capillary blood.
How much blood is collected?
Blood volume is dependent on the type of tube used but averages 200-600μL, and the entire procedure takes no longer than 5 minutes.
