Can I use this hair protocol with other Maximus Protocols?

Yes. Many men experience the greatest improvements when on more than one Maximus protocol as they are complementary and hold no contraindications. Your dedicated Maximus doctor will review your total health goals and symptoms to ensure you achieve the optimal results whether you are on one or multiple protocols.

Can I use the Hair Improvement Protocol if I’ve had a hair transplant?

Please consult the doctor that performed the transplant to confirm when topicals may be safely applied. Disclose this information to your Maximus doctor.

What’s included in the cost?

Costs include your medical review, unlimited doctor messaging, shipping, and medication. Because hair products require at least a few months of use for visible results, we offer 3 month packages to ensure you have enough medication and time to properly get going on the protocol. If you are not a candidate for treatment, you'll be eligible for a refund, less $30 for the initial doctor's consultation. The dermastamp device is an optional add-on purchase ($14.99) and can be purchased alongside topical protocols.

How do I know if the hair medication is working?

As part of each refill you will have the opportunity to send new pictures of your hair growth, which will be shared with your doctor so that you can discuss results and track your progress over time.

What states is this protocol available in?

This product is currently available in all US States, including District of Columbia.

Can I use my HSA or FSA card to pay for The Hair Improvement Protocol?

Yes! Maximus accepts Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).

Using your HSA/FSA is easy. Simply use your HSA/FSA card as you would any other debit or credit card when providing your billing information.

HSA/FSA plans vary on what services they are willing to cover. If you are uncertain whether your plan covers Maximus' services, check with your plan administrator.

Are these products different from Maximus Warrior Protocol or the Latanoprost formula?

Yes, we are always working to offer the most safe and innovative products and have created larger portfolio of products that are both efficacious and affordable. If you are looking for a specific formulation (such as Latanoprost) or customization, please ask your doctor to see if it can be accommodated.

Does your topical gel contain propylene glycol?

Maximus minimizes use of propylene glycol to avoid the greasiness and risk of irritation of the scalp associated with it. Our standard gel product does not include propylene glycol. However there may be a chance that your doctor prescribes a different (non-gel) format, which may include propylene glycol, but at an extremely low concentration of 0.0045%.

Will the Hair Improvement Protocol gel make my hair look greasy once applied?

The Hair Improvement Protocol uses a dehydrated base to prevent giving the hair a greasy appearance once applied.

What if the topical solution causes scalp irritation?

Please discuss any side effects or irritation with your doctor, they will advise clear options or next steps to reduce irritation.

What if I miss a day of topical treatment?

Consistency is key, get back on track with application as directed by your doctor as soon as possible. If you find that you are struggling with the daily topical application, you can discuss oral medication options with your doctor as well.

What is the Derma Stamp and how do I order one?

Maximus sells a microneedle device called a Derma Stamp. It is recommended to be used in conjunction with any of the topical medications to improve absorption and stimulate follicle growth. Studies have shown that when you combine minoxidil (a key ingredient) with microneedling, you can boost hair growth by 4x. You’ll be able to add a dermastamp to your order at checkout for $14.99.

Does the Derma Stamp hurt?

The Derma Stamp uses very shallow needles and is applied with an even pressure, lightly into the skin. This can cause mild discomfort, including after treatment. But most customers report that it is very tolerable and easy to use.

What are the possible side effects of this protocol?

Common Minoxidil+ Gel side effects include:
Itchy or dry scalp.
Temporary increase in hair shedding.
Serious side effects include:
Allergic reactions such as rash or swelling.
Chest pain or rapid heartbeat.
Contact your healthcare provider if you experience these or other concerning symptoms.

Common Oral Dutasteride side effects include:
Reduced libido.
Erectile dysfunction.

What else should I know about this protocol?

Avoid using other scalp treatments simultaneously without your provider's approval.

Follow-up visits may be needed to assess your response to treatment.

1
Topical tretinoin enhances the response to minoxidil in individ uals with low follicular sulfotransferase activity, the enzyme required for converting minoxidil into its active form. Increased sulfotransferase activity following tretinoin application resulted in 43% of initial nonresponders becoming responders. Tretinoin allows for once daily minoxidil application. Twice a day application of minoxidil yields better results without tretinoin

The addition of tretinoin to minoxidil therapy does not increase the incidence of adverse effects compared to minoxidil alone. Reported side effects, such as pruritus or local irritation, occurred at similar rates in both treatments
2
Fexofenadine, a second generation antihistamine, reduces inflammation through its H1 receptor antagonism, potentially mitigating inflammatory responses implicated alopecia. Chronic scalp inflammation contributes to hair follicle miniaturization in various forms of alopecia, and fexofenadine’s ability to suppress histamine driven inflammation may help
address this underlying factor.
3
Melatonin, most known for its role in mediating the wake sleep cycle, has actually been shown to increase the hair count 40% after six months of application.
4
Microneedling (with minoxidil) increases mean hair count 4.1x compared to minoxidil alone.
5
Topical minoxidil 5% is significantly more effective than the 2% formulation, with studies showing greater increases in hair density, thickness, and regrowth. Patients using the 5% concentration experienced approximately 45% more hair regrowth compared to baseline, while the 2% formulation produced more modest improvements.
6
The 10% formulation caused marked irritation and worsened psychosocial stress due to increased shedding and adverse effects, which negatively impacted patient satisfaction. In contrast, the 5% concentration provided robust hair regrowth with better tolerability and fewer side effects
7
Efficacy of Dutasteride (0.5 mg): Dutasteride at a daily dose of 0.5 mg significantly increases hair count and thickness compared to placebo and finasteride. In a 24-week study, hair count in a 2.54 cm diameter circle improved by 40.6 hairs with dutasteride, compared to 12.2 hairs with finasteride and a decrease of 7.6 hairs in the placebo group. Dutasteride’s dual inhibition of both type 1 and type 2 5-alpha-reductase enzymes enhances its ability to reduce scalp dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels by 79%, exceeding finasteride’s 64% reduction.

Scalp and Serum DHT Reductions: Dutasteride suppresses serum DHT levels by 92% and scalp DHT by 79% at a dose of 0.5 mg. This greater suppression compared to finasteride is linked to improved hair regrowth and restoration of terminal hair.

Safety Profile: Dutasteride 0.5 mg was well tolerated, with adverse events, including sexual side effects (e.g., decreased libido, erectile dysfunction), reported in approximately 5% of patients, comparable to finasteride. No serious adverse events or dose-dependent increases in side effects were observed, underscoring its safety when used within the therapeutic range.

Superior Dosing with 2.5mg: The 2.5 mg dose of dutasteride demonstrates significantly greater efficacy in treating androgenetic alopecia compared to the 0.5 mg dose. Over 24 weeks, the 2.5 mg dose increased hair count by approximately 109.6 hairs in a 1-inch target area, compared to 94.6 hairs with the lower dose. It also achieved 79% scalp DHT suppression and 96% serum DHT suppression, surpassing the reductions seen with 0.5 mg. Expert and investigator assessments consistently rated the higher dose more favorably, with marked improvements in both vertex and frontal scalp regions. While the 2.5 mg dose was associated with a slightly higher incidence of mild sexual side effects (e.g., decreased libido in 13% of patients), these effects were generally transient and resolved over time.
