What is it?

Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM)

How does it work?

Selectively blocks estrogen receptors, which leads to increased Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) secretion from the Anterior Pituitary Gland. LH serves as signal to the Leydig cells in the testes to produce more testosterone and FSH serves as a signal to the Sertoli cells in the testes to enhance spermatogenesis.

Study reports significant increases in fat-free mass and muscle size following a 10-week course of injectable testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), with controlled nutrition and exercise. The findings highlight marked improvements in body weight, fat-free mass, and muscle size of key muscle groups, as objectively measured by advanced techniques like underwater weighing and magnetic resonance imaging. These benefits are attributed to the elevations in testosterone levels achieved through TRT, suggesting similar outcomes with oral testosterone formulations that achieve comparable hormone elevations.

High-quality evidence shows that compared with placebo, injectable testosterone therapy was associated with a substantial improvement in sexual desire (libido), erectile function (EF), sexual activity, and sexual satisfaction in hypogonadal men. These benefits are linked to increased testosterone levels and similar effects can be anticipated with oral testosterone that achieves comparable hormone levels.

Promising associations have been found between cognition and testosterone supplementation in both eugonadal men and men with low testosterone levels, including those with baseline cognitive dysfunction.
